All the way from Jackson State University in Minnesota, the women's basketball team has a travel scheduled on Monday to Hammond Louisiana in order to face the Southeastern Louisiana Lady Lions in what promises to be an exciting match. The game will take place at 7 pm at the University Center, make sure to be there.

Even though the SWAC championship will not be played until Saturday at 1 pm in the Legion Field, there are already tons of preparations underway. The match will be broadcasted by ESPNU, and many different products will be available to be purchased during the game. This match has brought tons of expectations since fans from both sides are eager to see their team crowned.

In order to win the Southwestern Athletic Conference Football Championship, the Golden Lions from the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff will meet the feared and effective Bulldogs of Alabama A&M University next Saturday at 1 pm at the perfect place for a titan encounter, the Legion Field. Coach Melvin Spears finally fired
After what can only be described as a non linear career, coach Melvin Spears from Grambling State, was finally fired from his charge. With a devastating record of loosing 8 of 11 games, Spears was terminated by school officials. However, some of his players believe that he should have been given another chance, given the fact that most of these games were lost by a touchdown or less.

Southern Louisiana basketball team doing some heavy noise
From Southland, the Southern Louisiana men’s basketball team managed to win for the second time this season against Big 10’s Penn State. With one of the closest scoreboards seen lately, a contested 69-66 favoring the Lions, was the final score last Saturday in State College. The Lions keep doing some noise and promise more and more victories.

Patriot League teams completely dependant on Lafayette and Lehigh
Lafayette and Lehigh are definitely the most important providers of players for the Patriot League. Each one placed 14 athletes on the All Patriot League football team. From these players, running back Jonathan Hurt is probably the most renowned of them all, being the latest Patriot League’s offensive player of the year.

More than 100 games will be shown live

In track and field, there were 3 individuals who were honored this week by the Patriot League. David Falk was announced as the track performer of the week, while Franklin Johnson was honored with the field performer of the week award. The third Mountain Hawk to receive the award was in the female division; Ashlee Atwell received an award for her performance during the opening season.

Patriot League recognizes Ed Dutch
The captain Ed Dutch was just honored by the All Patriot League due to his magnificent performance among his team, the Leopards. Dutch is native from Havertown, Pa. and he was the man capable of crossing the finish line within an outstanding 26 minutes and 30 seconds. He is most definitely a great member of his team, representing the 800 meters men’s championship.

5 ladies honored by the Soccer Buzz
Just after a week of being honored in the All Mid Atlantic Region by The national Soccer Coaches Association of America, or the NSCAA, 5 fantastic ladies were honored with Soccer Buzz’s recognition after the ending season. Meggie Curran, Shelly Moeller, Lizzie Barnes and Cassie Barbaresi were these wonderful 5 ladies who are performing a magnificent job.

All-MEAC first team announces 3 Hornets
Junior receiver Shaheer McBride, senior safety Jamel Trott, and junior offensive lineman Jeremy Breath, were selected for the All-MEAC first team. With outstanding records, these 3 players will prove to be fundamental to the performance of the All Mid Eastern Athletic Conference first team. We can be sure that these players will provide the team with a much needed improvement.

South Carolina State’s fabulous 5 strike again
The outstanding offensive line from South Carolina State, better known as the “fabulous 5”, pulled their magnificent abilities again against opposing forces. Running back Deshawn Baker, backfield mate Will Ford, and offensive tackle Clyde Reed, are only 3 of the fabulous 5 line up. Their coach, Oliver Pugh, claims to be thrilled regarding the “Fab Five” performance.

This week’s MEAC Player of the Week goes to Shana Phillips
Shana Phillips, from Morgan State was announced as MEDAC player of the week. This senior guard native of Springfield, Massachusetts scored 23 points and managed 10 rebounds, actions which were fundamental in allowing her team to win on Saturday. With a career this solid, Philips guarantees her permanent participation with Morgan State.

Holmes, Rookie of the Week
Directly from Morgan State, guard Reggie Holmes was recently appointed as the new Rookie of the Week. Holmes scored 18 points, which helped his team, the Bears to concrete their first victory in the entire year; he also became the first player of his school to score three consecutive 3 pointers.

Humphrey was Gator’s key player against Florida A&M

They will be coached by Joe Taylor.

As champions of Mountain West Conference, the Brigham Young University Cougars were invited to play in the Pioneer PureVision Las Vegas Bowl on December 21. BYU Cougars are currently ranked as the 23rd team of the nation, and claim to be extremely excited about the invitation to this match in Las Vegas.

Coach DeBerry retires after 23 years of football experiences
Air Force’s Fisher DeBerry announced his retirement from college football coaching after 23 successful years of practicing the tactical and physical management of different football college teams. At his 68 years, DeBerry has a record of 3 league championships and 12 bowl games. His experience will most certainly be missed.

The Poinsettia Bowl opening game will have two titans facing each other. On one hand we have the Northern Illinois Huskies’ outstanding and dynamic offensive game, while on the other side we have the Texas Christian Horned Frogs’ outstanding and strong defensive style.
